YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) – Deputies shot and killed an armed man during a confrontation this morning.

Deputies say they received a call from an adult probation officer in reference to a man on probation threatening to hurt himself.

Yuma County Sheriff's Office Deputies arrived at the man's home at 7:45 am, but he would not come out.

An hour later, deputies went into the house, searched his home, and found an empty gun case in his room.

The man was nowhere in the house.

Deputies used a cell phone tracking system to find the man and found him in a dirt field near the 8100 block of South Avenue 7E.

Deputies say the man was armed with a handgun.

They say the man was given multiple orders to drop the gun, but he would not comply.

Then, in a confrontation, four deputies shot at the man hitting him multiple times.

Rural Metro paramedics rushed him to Yuma Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 10:00 am.

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Bureau is currently on scene investigating the incident.
