Deputies release name of man fatally shot during officer-involved shooting


YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) – 13 On Your Side can now tell you the name of the Yuma man, Rafael Adame, who was armed with a handgun and fatally shot by deputies.

It happened Tuesday morning around 9:00 am, in a dirt field in the 8100 block of South Avenue 7E, during a confrontation.

Deputies say the sheriff's office received a call from Adame's probation officer around 7:30 am, saying Adame was threatening to hurt himself with a weapon.

After trying to locate Adame at his home, deputies found him in a dirt field west of 7E armed with a handgun.

Deputies told Adame to drop his gun multiple times, but he ignored commands.

After a confrontation, he was shot multiple times by deputies.

Rural Metro paramedics rushed him to Yuma Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The shooting is under investigation.
