News Director / Anchor

Steve Nuñez

Steve Nuñez is celebrating 15 years working in television news. Steve graduated from the University of Arizona in 1993. KGUN 9 TV, the local ABC affiliate in Tucson, hired Steve immediately following graduation.

During Steve's tenure, he worked his way up from Intern to Studio Camera Operator to Reporter to Weekend News Anchor to Morning News Anchor. Steve is a four time Associated Press award winning journalist and has been recognized state-wide for his "tell it like it is" reporting. Besides reporting on Immigration issues along the U.S. Border and in Mexico, Steve has covered presidential elections in Mexico City, federal court cases in Phoenix involving Arizona's immigration law, and space shuttle launches in Florida. Steve's stories have often aired in other states. Last year he appeared on CNN to provide a special report on former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords when she cast her vote during the special election to replace her.

Here in Yuma, Steve strives to bring viewers the most trustworthy source of local television news that helps viewers exercise their obligations as citizens. Steve loves to interview the not-so-famous people to give voice to local "heroes."

"I'm excited about the opportunity to use 13 On Your Side to give voice to the people and cover the stories and issues that impact their every day lives. It's my commitment in serving my community."

Perhaps the most rewarding contribution to community comes from Steve's annual Christmas toy give-a-way party, "Miracle En El Barrio." For the last 10 years, "Miracle" has provided toys to more than 20,000 poor kids in Tucson! Steve plans to bring this same commitment to community to Yuma / El Centro.

Personally, Steve is a single father. His daughter Camila, 11, is his #1 PRINCESS!

In his spare time, Steve is a news and sports junkie. Steve is a die-hard WILDCATS fan!

Steve joined the "13 On Your Side" News team in November 2013. He serves as News Director and also anchors the nightly newscasts at 6 & 10.
