CBP officers bust man headed to Mexico with thousands of rounds of ammo

DOUGLAS, Ariz. (AP) - Customs and Border Protection Officers busted a man headed to Mexico with thousands of rounds of ammunition hidden in his SUV.

Officers assigned to the Port of Douglas referred 41-year-old Louis Armando Collins-Avila for an additional inspection of his SUV.

During the inspection, they found 3,000 rounds of ammunition often used in assault weapons.

They also found 2,000 rounds of 9 mm ammo and 1,000 rounds of .38-caliber ammunition.

The vehicle and ammunition were processed for seizure.

Collins-Avila was arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations for investigation.
