Woman accused of stealing millions from elderly man
Story by CBS News
TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A woman accused of stealing $2 to $3 million dollars from an elderly acquaintance has been arrested, police say.
Donna Iman, 45, was arrested today and charged with fraudulent schemes and theft.
She allegedly convinced a 92-year-old man she needed money for medical bills, Tucson Police say.
According to police, the man told friends in October that he had been giving large sums of money to a younger woman for about a year and a half. His friends became suspicious and encouraged him to call the police.
Tucson Police detectives learned that the two became friends after meeting at his church. According to police Iman told him in April 2010 that she needed help paying medical bills.
Police say he deposited more than $2 million into Iman's bank account.
Police also say there is no evidence that Iman had any of the treatments or procedures that she reported to the victim.
According to police, Iman bought land for nearly $330,000 in May 2011 and began building a million-dollar home on the property. Police also say Iman allegedly used the money from the victim to buy all-terrain vehicles, towing trailers, and other vehicles for herself and her family. She also allegedly used the victim's money to pay for cosmetic surgery in 2011, police say.
