Agents seize marijuana bundles dropped from ultra-light aircraft

YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) – Yuma Border Patrol agents seized 162 pounds of marijuana that were dropped from an ultra-light aircraft in a smuggling attempt.

Agents say the tracked the ultra-light aircraft at around midnight, as it came over the sky from Mexico, and saw it drop several bundles of marijuana.

They say the drugs were tied a metal frame in the field near Avenue D and 32nd Street.

The ultra-light aircraft immediately turned around and headed back to Mexico.

The drugs were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

In a separate incident on Tuesday, agents busted three Mexican citizens smuggling 192 pounds of marijuana in the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge.

The three men and the drugs were turned over to the Yuma County Narcotics Task Force.

The marijuana from both incidents is worth a combined $177,000.
