Mayor names August 'Drowning Awareness Month' in Yuma

Posted:

YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) – Mayor Alan Krieger named August 'Drowning Impact Awareness Month' in the City of Yuma.

The purpose is to raise awareness to the number of cases and the impact of child drowning in Arizona.

Every year drowning incidents take the lives of the equivalent of a classroom full of children.

Kids age four and younger are the highest risk group.

Every year in Arizona, an average of 100 people drown.

There have already been three drowning deaths in Yuma this year two toddlers and one adult.

Governor Jan Brewer will also name August drowning impact awareness month for the State of Arizona.
