Armed robbery suspect faces 18 felony charges

YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) – The man arrested in connection to a string of armed robberies in Yuma is back in court.

42-year-old Dennis Aguerro is facing 18 charges for robbing six different businesses between April 23, 2013, and July 7, 2013—along with a 16-year-old.

According to the prosecutor, the teen admitted that Aguerro would drop him off at a business and wait in the car while he would run in and demand money, threatening to kill the employee.

The duo was busted last week after a woman called 911 to report she was being followed by Aguerro on her way to the bank.

Police located Aguerro's car, pulled him over and found a black ski mask, rubber gloves and a shotgun in the car.

Today in court, the prosecutor said he believes Aguerro and his teen codefendant were not done yet.

"In that car that they found that night when they stopped the defendant and his codefendant, [police] found a detailed set of instructions, along with a hand-drawn layout of an interior of a house in Somerton, which detailed what items they wanted stolen from a house," he said.

The prosecutor added that incident had not been connected to the other armed robberies, but asked the Aguerro's bond remain at $1.5 million, cash-only.

The judge granted his request.

Aguerro remains behind bars and is due back in court Friday.
