Accident victim air-lifted to Phoenix hospital

YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) – A man is recovering from a farm vehicle accident in a Phoenix hospital.

It happened yesterday, just before 11 a.m. in a field near Highway 95 and Avenue D.

When Somerton Fire Department arrived at the scene, they found a man lying on the ground in extreme pain next to a large agriculture semi-trailer.

It is unknown if the victim was trapped, crushed or hit by the trailer when it collapsed.

Officials started to treat the victim at the scene, then he was air-lifted to St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix due to the extent of his injuries.

"He was suffering from injuries to the spine and was in extreme pain when we got there," explained Robby Rodriguez, with the Somerton-Cocopah Fire Department. "The helicopter responded very quickly and we were able to load him up in what we call a hot-load, with the helicopter still running so he could be transported to Phoenix."
