Group of pot smugglers arrested near Yuma

YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) - Agents from the Yuma Border Patrol Station arrested three people suspected of trying to smuggle hundreds of pounds of marijuana across the border last night.

It happened near the Colorado River.

Agents say they saw eight people run from the river, throw backpacks into a car, then sprint back toward Mexico.

The car tried to flee the scene, but agents used a tire deflating device to bring it to a stop.

Agents say the car's passengers then tried running away and hid inside of a homeowner's backyard on Sharon Lane.

A helicopter from the Office of Air and Marine helped locate the suspects, who were then arrested and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection says the marijuana they tried smuggling is estimated to be worth $185,000.
