San Luis R.C. offers gun for food voucher trade-off

Posted: Updated:

SAN LUIS, Rio Colorado, Sonora, Mexico (13 On Your Side) – The City of San Luis Rio Colorado in Mexico is offering food vouchers for residents who turn in guns.

Mexican authorities say they will give residents a food voucher worth up to 1,000 pesos for each firearm they turn in—no questions asked.

            That's about $75.00 in U.S. currency.

So far, the gun trade-off has taken in a total of 31 handguns and 47 shotguns or rifles.

People who turn in guns receive food vouchers worth between 100 and 1,000 pesos, depending on the condition and type of weapon.

The effort will continue until the end of September.
