Two bus passengers busted with heroin in shoes near Yuma

Posted: Updated:

YUMA, Ariz.Yuma Border Patrol agents busted two men at the Interstate-8 checkpoint just east of Yuma with nearly five pounds of heroin hidden in their shoes.

It happened yesterday.

Agents say the suspected drug smugglers are both Mexican citizens who were passengers on a shuttle bus.

A Border Patrol canine alerted agents to the bus, where they found $150,000 worth of heroin stashed in the two men's shoes.

The suspects and drugs are now in the hands of the Drug Enforcement Administration.

If this case sounds familiar, that's because last month 13 On Your Side reported on two other suspected smugglers who were caught with heroin in their shoes trying to pass through the same checkpoint.

Border Patrol agents encourage anyone who sees suspicious activity to call them at 1-866-999-8727. Callers can remain anonymous.
