Several from Univ. of Arizona Athletic Dept. help feed the hungry in Yuma

Posted: Updated:

YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) – Several staff members from the University of Arizona made a difference in the Yuma community by lending a helping hand at the food bank.

13 On Your Side was in the Yuma Community Food Bank as athletic directors and other staff members stuffed backpacks with meals.

President of the UA Alumni Association Melinda Burke says they want to help the 53,000 children in the Yuma community who do not know where their next meal is coming form.

Burke said by helping to feed these children, they can be healthy and energized in order to have the best shot at academic success.

"We know those children someday can be students and alumni of the University of Arizona. So someday they will be here as alumni in this community helping out just as we are today.

Still, President and CEO of the Yuma Community Food Bank Mike Ivers says the war on hunger continues.

Be sure to stay with 13 On Your Side for the latest Yuma Community Food Bank efforts to feed the hungry in our area.
