UPDATE: Police identify fugitive in shooting

Posted:

YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) – Police reported the officer-involved shooting at about 1:30 this afternoon.

We have just confirmed a U.S. Marshal and a Yuma police officer opened fire on the suspect after he tried to ram his vehicle into them.

The shooting took place at the Knights Inn, located at 2730 South Fourth Avenue.

Police say the suspect is a dangerous and violent gang member.

Police say U.S. Marshals called them in for backup to help arrest the wanted fugitive.

The shooting took place shortly after.

According to one witness we spoke to, he claims he heard officers yell "get down, get down, get down!" and then heard ten to twelve gunshots.

Police tell us the officers involved in the shooting were not injured.

Right now, police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the shooting to call 78-CRIME. We'll continue to follow this story and will bring you the latest tonight at 10pm.
