National AMBER Alert Website taken down due to government shutdown

Posted: Updated:

Washington D.C. - The official website of the AMBER Alert program (www.amberalert.gov/‎) has been taken offline, due to the federal government shutdown according to the Justice Department.

"Due to the lapse in federal funding, this Office of Justice Programs (OJP) website is unavailable," a message now reads on the national AMBER Alert website.

The AMBER Alert program is a voluntary partnership between law-enforcement and broadcasters which originated in 1996 that issues urgent bulletins following cases of child abductions. Since its inception 17 years ago the AMBER Alert program has helped recover over 600 missing children.
