YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) – Before kids put on their costumes today, we have some tips to make sure they stay out of harms way.

The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety says Halloween is the deadliest night of the year for pedestrians.

Firefighters share the best tips to avoid danger so you can have a safe and fun Halloween.

They say children should wear light-colored or reflective costumes so they are visible in the dark. Other tips for children include:


  • Walk on sidewalks not in the street
  • Look both ways before crossing the street
  • Never go out alone
  • Keep away from candles and open fires
  • Only visit homes that have outside lights on
  • Never go into a stranger's house
  • Have grownups inspect treats before eating
