Farmworker crushed by tractor

Posted: Updated:

YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) – A farmworker died Tuesday afternoon after she was run over by a tractor.

Paramedics tried to save Ana Maria Barrera-Bogarin, of San Luis, Ariz., but doctors later pronounced her dead at Yuma Regional Medical Center.

Investigators tell us Barrera-Bogarin was picking lettuce when the driver of a tractor trailer didn't see her and ran her over.

Emergency responders were called to the lettuce field on County 17th and Avenue G Tuesday afternoon at around 4:00 pm.

"When we got on the scene we found a female lying on the ground," said Robby Rodriguez, a public information officer with Somerton/Cocopah Fire Department.

Rodriguez says the tractor weighs several tons and crushed Barrera-Bogarin.

Paramedics rushed Barrera-Bogarin to Yuma Regional Medical Center, but a short while later, the Yuma County Sheriff's Office confirmed she died of her injuries.

We still do not know whether the driver of the tractor will be cited or face charges.

We will continue to follow this story and bring you more information as it becomes available.
