How to keep your car, belongings safe this holiday season


YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) – It is the holiday time of year--malls are packed, people are looking for deals, and thieves are looking for the chance to cash in on a crime of opportunity.

Police urge you to lock your car doors set the alarm and to never leave valuables or items with personal information in the car.

We spoke to police about protecting yourself and your belongings no matter where you are during this time of year.

  • Always park in a well traveled, well lit area
  • Put all of your valuable items away and out of sight before you park in the shopping center parking lot
  • Don't keep unnecessary valuables in your vehicle
  • Never leave your purse or wallet in the vehicle
  • Lock your vehicle and set the alarm or anti-theft device
  • Mark (etch, inscribe, or engrave) all valuables you must have in your car with a personal identifier (not your social security number). 

If you notice any suspicious behavior or witness a burglary, call the Yuma Police Department.
