Narcotics task force busts members of Sinaloa drug cartel

YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) – In a massive drug sting aimed at one of the most powerful Mexican drug cartels, the Imperial Valley Narcotics Task force arrested ten drug smugglers trafficking meth and cocaine across the border from Mexicali.

Nine agencies were involved in arrested people in the Imperial Valley, in an operation aimed at cracking down on drug smuggling across the U.S.-Mexico border.

By 7:00 am Wednesday morning, officers from the Imperial County Narcotics Task Force quietly surrounded an apartment complex on Main Street in El Centro.

Their goal: To arrest members of the Sinaloa cartel.

13 On Your Side's Grecia Aguilar went along with the narcotics task force team as they arrested Fernando Saldana from El Centro, who they say repeatedly drove drugs to Los Angeles over a span of three years.

Meanwhile, officers arrested other suspected cartel members in Calexico, Heber and Brawley.

Saldana is just one of many people busted by authorities in "Operation Cerberus." Agents also busted suspected drug smuggling suspects in Southern California, Arizona and Oregon.
