Giffords honors Sandy Hook shooting victims

Posted:

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband have planted a yellow rose bush in Tucson to mark the passage of one year since a troubled gunman killed 26 people a Newtown, Conn., elementary school.

Giffords and Captain Mark Kelly dedicated the plant Saturday in the Community Gardens of Tucson at an event that drew around 100 people.

That a garden was created after a 2011 Tucson shooting using the plants and flowers left in front of the hospital, the shooting site, and the congresswoman's district office.

The garden honors the six people who died and thirteen, including Giffords, who were injured in the 2011 shooting rampage.

It's the first addition to the garden from Giffords and Kelly.
