8-year-old Mesa girl who was abducted was able to escape

PHOENIX (AP) - Mesa police say an 8-year-old girl who was abducted as she rode her bike near her apartment escaped her captor after he crashed his car.

The Arizona Republic reports (http://bit.ly/1cqY8J7) that the girl suffered minor injuries from Sunday afternoon's crash, but didn't need to be taken to a hospital.

Police say the girl was abducted by 22 year-old Robert Curtis Milliron.

Milliron was booked on suspicion of kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment and other charges.

It's not known whether Milliron has a lawyer.

Mesa Police spokesman Tony Landato says witnesses to the abduction notified an officer in that area at the time.

When the man crashed the car in a nearby alley, the girl was able to escape.

Police say Milliron fled on foot and was taken into custody shortly after.
