Car of missing elderly man found near Parker, deputies and family continue search

YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) – On January 4, the Yuma County Sheriff's Office got a call from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office in reference to a man who had gone missing a year ago.

82-year-old Laurence "Jack" Doering hasn't been seen since he walked out of his Foothills home last January—leaving his worried family to search far and wide for the beloved elderly man who suffered from Alzheimer's disease.

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office tells 13 On Your Side that Doering's car has been found in an area near Parker, Arizona.

The car had a flat tire and a dead battery.

San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office responded, since the car was found on the California side of the border, and immediately deployed a search and rescue team to look for Jack Doering.

Unfortunately, they returned empty handed.

Sheriffs still do not know where he is.

Back in January of 2013, Doering's family traveled to Yuma from Washington State and reached out to 13 On Your Side to speak out about the search for Jack.

Jack Doering's son, Paul Doering, headed to Yuma immediately after hearing his father was missing. He says his father can function for short periods of times, but his Alzheimer's affects him to the point he cannot even operate a phone.

Another son of Doering said he was not even sure his father could put gas in the Chevrolet Suburban (which he was last seen driving) without assistance.

Mr. Doering is described as being six feet tall, weighing about 170 pounds. He has gray hair and blue eyes.

If you have seen him or have any information about him you are urged to contact your local law enforcement. And, as always, you can report a tip anonymously by calling 78-CRIME.
