Yuma Regional Medical Center to host health insurance enrollment event Saturday

YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) – As millions of Americans gain health insurance this week under the Affordable Care Act and many through Medicaid, our local hospital is making sure no Yuma resident is left behind.

This weekend, Yuma Regional Medical Center is hosting a health insurance enrollment event to make sure you too can enroll in the Arizona Healthcare Cost Containment System—Arizona's Medicaid program.

As of January 1, 2014, applicants are no longer required to have children to be eligible.

A new study found that people who have Medicaid end up in the emergency room 40 percent more often, as a result of waiting for their condition to worsen before seeking help.

But in most cases, it would be less expensive to seek treatment from a primary care doctor or urgent care clinic.

We spoke to Yuma Regional Medical Center's CEO Pat Walz, who says he hopes this Saturday's enrollment fair will help debunk the confusion for Yuma residents and help them get the healthcare they need before their conditions worsen.

If you want to attend the health insurance enrollment fair, you can head to the Yuma Regional Medical Center this Saturday.

You'll have a chance to learn more on Arizona's Medicaid Program and how you might be able to qualify.

It's kicking off at 8:00 am on Saturday morning at the Yuma Regional Corporate Center, located at 399 West 32nd Street, and will be going on until 4:00 pm.
