Woman arrested in connection to hit-and-run is released from jail

YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) – The woman suspected of being the driver involved a hit-and-run that left a pedestrian dead has been released from jail.

42-year-old Margarita Belen appeared before Judge Jorge Lozano, who allowed her to be released from her jail cell under the condition she remain under supervised pretrial services.

Belen has no previous criminal record—but is now facing a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury, according to court records.

The crash happened Sunday, January 19, 2014, at around 9:00 pm near Highway 95 and Avenue H.

Deputies say Belen left the scene of the crash in her Chevrolet SUV, but a witness was able to catch her license plate number and a description of the vehicle.

Moments later, San Luis police arrested Belen at a home in the area.

She was booked into jail Sunday night.

The victim, later identified as Joshua Wynn—a man who had been reported missing out of North Carolina back in December—died that same night.

We do not know what he was doing in Yuma, or why he was walking along Highway 95.
