YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) - The driver who killed a bicyclist in a hit and run accident near 8th Street and Magnolia Avenue has been found. Police tell 13 On Your Side that man has been interviewed and released pending further investigation.
As 13 On Your Side first reported, at about 8 PM MST, the driver, whose name has not been released, hit a bicyclist whose name also has not been released, while he was crossing the street in the crosswalk. The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Police blocked off the road for a few hours to clean up the scene. At the time, neither the man who hit the cyclist or the vehicle used to hit him were at the area, but witnesses say that it looked like a old white flatbed pickup.
On Sunday, police located the driver of the vehicle at an undisclosed location.
We asked police why the driver was not immediately arrested for Hit and Run, and police tell us they are not making any arrests at this time because the investigation is still ongoing.
This is the third vehicle vs pedestrian crash in the month of February within the city limits. 2 of the 3 crashes have resulted in pedestrian deaths.
Police say anyone with any tips about this accident are urged to call Yuma Police or 78-CRIME. Remember, if your tip leads to an arrest, you may be eligible for up to a $1,000 reward.
