Man arrested for murder of Wellton mother agrees to plea deal

Posted: Updated:

Trial dates were fast approaching for the now 31-year-old Jose Jimenez -- who prosecutors say killed Wellton mother of three, "Crystal Figueroa."

but a document filed and signed by the defense and the state shows Jimenez accepted a plea agreement this week in court.

that means most of his charges were dropped.

the plea deal also changes the one count of murder from "first" to "second" degree -- which is a, quote "non-dangerous, non-repetive" offense.

back in march 2013... a field worker found Figueroa's body in a citrus grove.

Prosecutors say Jimenez drove Figueroa to the grove in the counties... and shot her multiple times with a nine millimeter handgun.

Court documents also show Jimenez and Figueroa had previously been in a relationship... and the defendant had prior convictions.

Jimenez will spend up to 25 years in prison.

he will also have to pay up to 500-thousand-dollars in "restitution".
