Adam Silver Hands Down Suspension And Fine To Donald Sterling

New York (CBS HOUSTON) - In a press conference Tuesday afternoon NBA Commissioner Adam Silver handed LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling a suspension of a lifetime ban from the Clippers organization or the NBA and a fine of $2.5 million.  The $2.5 million is the most Sterling could be fined according to the bi-laws of the NBA.

Sterling is facing harsh criticism after TMZ and Deadspin released audio where the owner talked disparagingly to his girlfriend at the time, V. Stiviano, about her being seen with African Americans.  One of the big issues heard on the tape is an instagram photo of Stiviano with Magic Johnson.

Silver stated that after a inquiry and interview with Sterling, that the voice on the tapes is in fact Sterling.   Silver also apologized to great NBA Players including Magic Johnson.  The commissioner also stated that he will urge the board of governors of the NBA to force Sterling to sell the Clippers.

The Clippers team turned their warm up jerseys in-side out before Sunday’s playoff game against the Golden State Warriors to cover up the team name “Clippers” as a silent protest to Sterling’s comments.  The Miami Heat did the same thing before their playoff game Monday.
