MCLEAN, Va., May 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- USA TODAY and Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI), the official U.S. representatives to the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, announced today the winning teams of the 2014 U.S. Young Lions Competitions. The competitions offer young creative minds from around the world an opportunity to compete against each other and showcase their talent on a global stage during the Cannes Lions Festival in June.
The ONE Campaign, an advocacy and campaigning organization of nearly 4 million people taking action to end extreme poverty and preventable disease, was the non-profit partner for the 2014 competitions. The assignment challenged the teams to develop creative digital/mobile ads, short films, media plans and print ads to engage millennials in the political process by making phone calls to their representatives in support of ONE's advocacy work and life-saving legislation.
"We've definitely noticed increased engagement with the U.S. Young Lions Competitions. Many teams competed in multiple competitions. As always, we are proud to work with such an esteemed group of judges, and this year we were thrilled to include ONE as our featured non-profit," said Sandra Cordova Micek, senior vice president of marketing for USA TODAY.
"We were incredibly excited to be this year's non-profit partner. As an advocacy organization, ONE always needs fresh, energetic voices in the fight against extreme poverty. We had high hopes for the work and the quality of the entries were far beyond what we could have expected. The highest compliment I can give this work is that we will be using it in the real world," said Jeff Davidoff, ONE's chief marketing officer. "We wish the winning teams the best of luck in the global competitions."
