Four people, including three children, safely evacuate house fire in Yuma

YUMA (KSWT-TV 13OYS) -- Four residents, including one male adult and three children, were inside of their home when a fire started in the backyard. It happened in the 7400 block of East 24th Street.

The Yuma Fire Department was able to quickly put out the fire and keep the flames from spreading into the house.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the back of the house. Flames engulfed a wooden deck and patio roof and was spreading to the attic spaces above the patio (see photos).

An adult inside of the home saw the wooden deck on fire. He was able to safely evacuate three children who were also inside of the home at the time the fire started. No one was injured.

The fire appeared to have originated in a large pile of grass clippings next to the wooden deck. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
