Traffic stop leads to $1 million marijuana bust in Imperial County

(KSWT-TV 13OYS) -- The California Highway Patrol said a traffic stop Monday led to the seizure of $1 million worth of marijuana. 


The CHP officer pulled over a white Chevrolet passenger van traveling down State Route 86, south of Keystone Road in Imperial County, for a vehicle code violation. The officer immediately detected signs the vehicle was loaded with drugs.


A CHP K-9 was called to the scene and alerted officers to 2,000 pounds of marijuana hidden inside the van. The marijuana has a street value of $1 million. 


CHP arrested the driver, Julio Meza, 30, of Las Vegas. He faces felony charges for possession and transportation of marijuana.
