GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Glendale authorities say a 16-year-old boy drowned while swimming with two friends in an apartment complex pool.
The three had been playing video games until 4:30 a.m. Monday when they decided to take a swim.
Authorities say the two other boys got distracted before they saw the victim under the water, pulled him out, called 911 and performed CPR until firefighters arrived.
The victim was pronounced dead at a hospital about 7 a.m.
He later was identified as Quentin Hoffman, who played basketball at Deer Valley High School.
Hoffman was a point guard and Deer Valley coach Jed Dunn called him the toughest player in the school's basketball program.
