Statistics are shown at the national level and for individual states. The total cash and investment holdings of the nation's state-administered defined benefit pensions systems totaled $2.7 trillion in 2013. By comparison, total cash and investment holdings totaled $2.5 trillion in 2012, yielding a 7.8 percent increase from 2012 to 2013.
