Preston Strong Charged with Dr. Gill Murder

The man accused in the La Mesa Street murders is facing murder charges for a more recent crime.  In November, the body of Dr. Satinder Gill was discovered at his home on La Quinta Loop.  Police say he was asphyxiated and beaten, and a large sum of money was missing from the home.

"Along with several months of investigation, follow up interviews, and evidence processing, we were able to present our case when we felt it was appropriate to the county attorney's office," says Ofc. Clint Norred with the Yuma Police Departement.  On Thursday, a grand jury indicted Strong on several charges including first degree murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, and burglary.  Strong actually faces two counts of first degree murder; one count for premeditation and a second for murder committed during another criminal act.

The death of Satinder Gill unlocked a wealth of secrets about the ex-con.  In a November press conference, Yuma police named Strong a suspect in the 2005 slaying of a family of six.  Investigators say they are still building a case against strong for the La Mesa Street murders.

"The La Mesa case is extensively complicated and it's still under investigation and it's something that the Yuma Police Department is committed to solving."  Police are still asking for the public's help in closing that case.

"Somebody out there knows something on the La Mesa investigation.  No matter how big or how small, that information can be crucial."

Preston Strong remains in jail, serving out a three year sentence for theft.  On Saturday, Strong will be in court for his initial appearance.
